Kong is the legacy of the Bonaiti family business dating all the way back to 1830 when the family owned and operated a number of forges in Italy. Fast forward to the 1970s, just after the birth of mountaineering, and we find the family in ownership of a factory producing general-purpose carabiners. With the idea for a larger operation and a more purpose-built product, a new factory was opened in Monte Marenzo, establishing the focus on higher quality mountaineering and climbing carabiners, with the Kong brand launching not long after with its trademark in 1982. In the following years, the range of products expanded and bore ever more unique and specialized tools for climbers, rescue workers, sailors and industrial interests. Today, the company is known worldwide for its high quality mountaineering and climbing equipment, all produced in Italy by the same factory it all started in, as well as the recognizable oval outline of their logo which is reminiscent of the product that got them here.
